New Student Orientation and Convocation starts at 9 a.m. and check in for it opens at 7 a.m. It is recommended you come by 8 a.m. to allow you to register, meet new people and be ready for the opening ceremony. Please follow the signs when you get to the North Vancouver campus on September 4 to check in for the event.

Yes! You need to attend both because different information will be shared at each and you will meet students from across programs. You need to register for both separately via the links for New Student Orientation and then this form for International Student Orientation. Reminder: you will need to attend two different orientations if you are an international student. Please consult the schedule for specific times and locations.

As a new student, whether international or domestic, you will find the "Starting for Success" pre-orientation activity on your Moodle course listing page. Please ensure you complete this course before you arrive for in person orientation. It will take you approximately one hour to complete pre-orientation activities and you can earn a badge for successfully completing it. Pre-orientation includes valuable information to help you be successful at CapU.

Each day of orientation has a different start and end time, the mandatory day for new students is September 4, 2018. You should expect to be on campus on September 4 between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Classes start in the evening of September 4 and students enrolled in these Tuesday classes are expected to attend.

Each school will hold school specific welcome talks following the general New Student Orientation & Convocation ceremony. New students will be led to their Faculty programs from the general welcome talk by your Peer Helper. Your individual programs may hold separate orientations outside of the September 4 events. If this is the case for you, your program will send you the specific details and your Peer Helper can direct you to where you need to go.

Yes, there will be events around the city and Northshore community if you wish to explore the neighborhoods and city along with fellow students. Reference the schedule section for more details. Keep in mind the university will be closed for holiday and you should plan for any pending matters before orientation day.

The New International Student Orientation takes place on August 30 in the Centre for Sport and Wellness. On September 4, new international students are also welcomed to the university during the New Student Orientation & Convocation ceremony where you can connect and meet your peers and faculty. Attendance for the September 4, 2018 orientation is mandatory for International Students.

The majority of classes are cancelled on September 4. Only classes scheduled after 5:30 p.m. will be held that day. Unless you hear otherwise from your professor, it is safe to assume September 4 classes are canceled. For other orientation activities that are scheduled to take place between September 5-7 please participate in events that do not conflict with your scheduled class times.

Parking is free on campus for September 4. For events scheduled after September 4, and during the school term, you will need to pay for parking on campus.

We recommend that new students arriving by car to the New Student Orientation & Convocation on September 4 park in Parking Lot 1 or 8. To get to these Parking lots, turn right from Lillooet Road onto Purcell Way and follow the road down past the Birch building and the Centre for Sport & Wellness. For those who park in Parking Lots 2 through 4, you will need to follow the signs posted and walk down Monashee Drive or through campus to Check-In.

Visit Maps & Directions for a campus map with parking information.

When arriving by bus, please use Translink's Trip Planner to plan your route. There will be signs all around campus on September 4 to help direct you to the check-in desk.
